Fighting For Literacy
Reading and writing is an essential communication skill that all youth need to develop to succeed and survive in today’s world. Unfortunately, approximately 50% of the nation’s unemployed youth age 16-21 are functionally illiterate, with virtually no prospects of obtaining good jobs. To challenge this alarming statistic at its earliest stages, Boys & Girls Clubs Literacy Centers will utilize the Slingerland® Multisensory Approach to Language Arts, an approach that combines Auditory, Visual and Kinesthetic-motor processing to develop and reinforce learning skills that build self-confidence, assurance, and hope for the educational success of each Club member.
